My Story
My name is Tammy, and my husband and I have two children both with Autism, PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance), ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder ) and Anxiety. Growing up in country Western Australia, Warren and I both played sports and were part of clubs (Scouts, Brownies, Cadets) that gave us the opportunity to develop our interpersonal and social skills.
For our children this has been like an impossible dream, instead we are plagued with social isolation and school avoidance. The boys Occupation Therapists, Social Workers and Support Coordinators all recommended finding something they were interested in. Whilst Geraldton has beautiful weather and some of the best beaches in the Australia there was nothing for my boys whose main interest are computer games.
I have worked in the IT (Information Technology) Department for over 12 years and before that nursing. With a passion for computers and 3D printing, I decided that the only way to help my boys was to start our own centre. Along this journey I have discovered that my boys are not alone, and many children and adults are struggling with the same social isolation. With a dedicated centre where they can harness their passion for gaming and technology to build their capacity for social interaction and community involvement.
